All the other possible choices

You're choosing, at any step of the way, even if you are paralised with fear. And, in principle, you should forget about many if not all of the other options that you've just left behind.

But when you don't, and all or some of those alternative pathways get in the way of your thoughts, your actions, your memories, it's when the turmoil begins. And you can't win. You will be comparing your reality with a probability, something that you can't know how it could've been, you can only imagine, play it around in your head, act it out with a script that you are creating then and there and that would be several times better than whatever reality you are living in, of course.

That's what fantasies are made of, they belong in the world of perfection. Used as inspiration, they can be the force that moves you, evolves you. Used as an alternative to reality, they drag you away from effort, from patience, from care and even from love.

But what human was ever absolutely capable of escaping the force of easiness, lust, inconsequential fantasies... What human never thought of all the other possible choices before making the one choice that would forever define a part of their life, of themselves?

And what do we do with the hours, the days, sometimes weeks, that we spend consumed by the "What if..."?
